I’m guessing this is the case for most beauty junkies, but I tend to think of my skincare routine as simple, but when I actually have to tell someone what’s involved, it turns out to be much more complex than I anticipated!

Summer has recently hit Sydney (Sydney doesn’t really have in-between seasons – it was a high of 18 °C one day and 30 °C the next!), and I’ve changed up my routine a bit accordingly from my winter regimen. Here are the things I’ve been incorporating into my routine most of the time – I use a LOT of other stuff when for whatever reason I feel like my skin (or possibly just my peace of mind) “needs” it, but listing it all here just made me feel like a high maintenance princess!

Cleansers/Exfoliants

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid – I’ve blogged about this before, and it still itches like crazy after I apply it, but I notice blackhead flareups when I forget to use it for more than about a week. It’s going to last me forever, I haven’t even gotten 1/10 of the way through this bottle yet!

DIY Apple Cider Vinegar/Green Tea Toner – I bought some Bragg’s apple cider vinegar for salads (I love sour food!), and decided to try using some as a toner, mixing one part vinegar to two parts green tea in an attempt to cover up the smell (it didn’t work). It’s too early to tell how well it’s working though.

Models Prefer Skin Cleanser – This vibrating cleansing brush was $16 and is still going strong (on its first set of batteries!) since I bought it last December. I use it with a variety of gel cleansers, especially if I’ve been wearing heavy makeup. Best Priceline impulse buy ever!

Dermalogica Thermafoliant* – I was recommended this when I had my face mapped, and I’m an addict! The scrub heats up when it hits water, I’m guessing due to the magnesium oxide it contains (might do a post on this later!), which is lots of fun and makes the scrub feel more efficient, though I’m not sure it needs to – it’s quite rough, without feeling overly abrasive and damaging.

Lush Angels on Bare Skin* – I’ve been buying this myself for ages, but to my delight Lush gave us a tub each at a blogger event, just as my tub ran out (thanks Lush!!). This is really nice for times when I feel like my skin’s been abused a bit too much from overzealous exfoliation and I just want to get the gunk off without bothering it too much.

Serums/Treatments

Uriage AquaPrécis Express Mask* – I wasn’t expecting much from this, since I only kept it on for 5 minutes… but wow! My skin felt plump after washing it off, and it felt the same the next morning, which is something that’s never happened to me before, not even with half hour masks and the like. Love love love.

O Cosmedics B3 Plus* – I’ve been using this mix of niacinamide, vitamin C and skin brightening peptides on my cheekbone freckles – time will tell if it works (it should, scientifically speaking). The ampoule-inspired packaging is unique – you snap a spring-loaded vial into the bottom of the dispenser, pump it a few times and some serum squeezes out of the rollerball. A nifty way of protecting the product from light and air!

Kosmea Rose Hip Oil* – My usual favourite, and I’ve raved about rose hip oil enough times that some people know me as “the rose hip oil freak”, so I’ll hold back this time. I’m using the 20th anniversary limited edition version, which is currently retailing at a reduced price ($19.95).

Jurlique Purely Bright Radiance Serum* – Another attempt to tackle the pesky cheekbone freckles. If you’re in Sydney between the 3rd and 6th of October, you need to check out the Jurlique Serum Exchange program at Westfield Sydney – bring in an old serum (any brand!) and swap it for a 30 mL Jurlique serum.

Tomorrow I’ll show you the moisturisers and body products I’ve been using, and I might even add up the number of skincare products I slap on my face on a typical day…oh dear! How many products do you think is a reasonable number?
