Here’s what I’ve been testing on my lips lately – Rimmel The Only 1 Lipstick, newly available in stores in Australia for $15.95 each. Here’s my review and swatches of 8 of the shades.

Rimmel The Only 1 Lipsticks are all-in-one lipsticks that combine intense colour, smooth application, solid moisturisation and excellent staying power, and I have to say they live up to their claims! I was particularly surprised by the wear time, as creamy lipsticks tend to suffer in that department, but Rimmel The Only 1 lipsticks wear off evenly and seem to sink into the lips well (according to their marketing, they use “a fine blend of advanced polymers” to achieve this).

Rimmel The Only 1 Swatches

Here are some swatches of 6 of the shades. There are 12 The Only 1 shades available in Australia, and 15 shades overseas.

Not swatched:

I really like these shades – they’re all my sort of shades. I do feel like there should be a lighter nude colour though – even though they’re horrific on me, I know they’re quite popular with lighter skinned girls. I’d also love to see a purple. I’m a little sad that there are 15 shades available overseas, but only 12 available here – the ones we don’t get are two vampy shades, Under My Spell and Oh-So Wicked (particularly sad since I’m really into vampies right now), and Pink Me Love Me, a light pink (you can get them online though through Amazon or eBay).

I’m also not a huge fan of the tapered shape – to me it’s not particularly stylish and the lipsticks don’t sit together nicely. I’d prefer a more traditional round or square shape. The scent is also a little strong. Although it doesn’t bother me, I can imagine that it could get irritating if you’re not into the scent (it’s an artificial cucumber-ish melon fragrance that’s used in a lot of Rimmel lip products).

Apart from that, these lipsticks are awesome. I’ve been a fan of Rimmel’s lipsticks for a while but these are definitely the best they’ve released. I hope they’ll come out in more shades here soon!

  1. I am in LOVE with these lipsticks!! They are just stunning. So intense with really gorgeous color. I have a hard time wearing intense bright colors, these look good on me! I’m also choked that we don’t have those two vampy shades!! And these don’t dry out my lips, which is amazing in itself. Love love love 😀

    • They’re so good! I’ve been wearing them a lot – even the colours that I think are a bit iffy on me normally look pretty nice. I think it’s because they apply so evenly 🙂
