Michelle. 20-something PhD graduate and beauty junkie. Nail and skincare veteran/eyeshadow novice. Eatbeast and good cook (comes with the synthetic chemist territory). Proofreading enthusiast and stationery collector. Kind of a weirdo. Terrible dancer. Bizarrely muscly pole dancer. Small, fits into places. Not a hipster, dammit.
I started Lab Muffin a bit over two years ago, frustrated that the beauty blogosphere didn't have enough easy-to-understand explanations of the science behind beauty products. I firmly believe that anyone can understand the science behind skincare and beauty, and if you can't, it's not your fault - it's the fault of the person doing the talking (and sometimes, they're trying to bamboozle you into believing them). For those who are curious: my background is in organic chemistry, specifically synthesis and pharmacology, with a lot of experience in science education and communication.
I am pro-science, anti-fear-mongering, anti-hype, pro-healthy-skepticism, pro-honesty, anti-one-size-fits-all.
