The Ordinary will be launching in Priceline in April 2017, although the products are already available in the DECIEM standalone stores (Sydney and Melbourne), and in Myer. There’s a helluva lot of buzz about The Ordinary in skincare addict circles because they use scientifically-backed ingredients in effective formulations, and they retail at disturbingly budget-friendly prices.

The question for us Aussies is always: What’s the Australian markup? Luckily, the answer is… not much at all!

I usually don’t post info straight from a press release, but I’ve had so many readers asking me about this that I thought I’d dump all the info I know here. Not all of the range will be included in the first launch, and I’m sure the information is subject to change until the actual launch.

  1. I’ve got advanced retinoid, vitamin c suspension, azelaic acid, and the spreadability primer. I also have Hylamide’s SubQ serum.

The retinoid smells a bit like Cold Plasma, of which I got a tester and couldn’t use because it smells … fishy? But, it is effective, and I was a bit perky after day 1. Vitamin C was grainy, as I expected… I liked it but not as much as other serums of that type, but the price point here makes it hard to argue with. I’m not sure if I’m getting anything from the azelaic acid yet but it’s pleasant, and the primer had strong smell and I’m not sure how much it worked.

The SubQ serum, though… that stuff is AWESOME. I can’t say enough about what a great moisturizer it has been, I’m almost into my second bottle. Buffet is supposed to be a less comprehensive version of it.

  2. I’m so excited for these to launch! I’m definitely happy with those prices and glad they didn’t mark it up. I really want to try the retinol and the lactic acid but really impressed with their range!

  3. Thanks, I think I’ll take a look at the HA 2%+B5 and the MAP. Is there a reason that the azelaic acid would be better than OTC Finacea 15%?

    • The formula might be different so it could work better or worse with the rest of your skincare routine… but I haven’t seen any reviews regarding that yet!

  4. Thanks for this info! I just cross checked the prices on The Ordinary’s site and your blogpost – and the prices are the same!! Australians won’t have to buy in bulk to get free shipping anymore because we get to buy it at the same price at Priceline now – great idea from the Deciem guys…they already know we are going to go crazy with The Ordinary for a long time to come!

  5. I am so excited that Priceline will be stocking The Ordinary!!!!

I am also interested in getting the Advanced Retinoid 2%. I wonder if we can use it the same night we use a chemical exfoliant? Their Regimen Guide does not show a conflict.

    I have the:
    -Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
    -Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%
    -Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
    -Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2%
    -Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
    -Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%

I have been using these products for a month I will repurchase them all except for Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (I am not sure I can see any benefits from it). After I finish the Lactic Acid I want to go up to the 10%. The Ordinary have helped with my hormonal acne and pigmentation.

I saw that some new products will be released and I want to get them all (Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, Salicylic Acid 2% Solution, AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution).

Looking forward to your review of their products.

  6. I think the price of these products are great if you just want one main ingredient (and each product has other ingredients as well). I would like to use multiple ingredients, so I added the cost of the products I am interested in and it was approx USD $85. My current serum is $84. I thought about mixing my own – a drop of this and that – but then I might be cancelling the effects of an active ingredient by mixing. Still, Bravo to Deciem for telling us the % of their active ingredient. I might just select Niacinamide and add it to my nightly regimen, since my current serum doesn’t contain it.

  7. The Ordinary is still well-priced in Australia. It’s marked up of course but not by too much and because it’s so inexpensive to begin with it doesn’t make much difference. And if the brand is included when Priceline has their regular 40% off sale then it’s going to be super cheap!

Unfortunately I can’t say the same for NIOD. I was interested in CAIS so I did a price comparison.

    15ml CAIS 1%
    UK £38
    Australia $90

£38 is about $62 AUD. I understand currency fluctuations but the pound post-Brexit hasn’t fallen by that much. For other Australians interested in Deciem’s higher end brand, I advise buying from UK retailers like Look Fantastic (free shipping) or Victoria Health (not free shipping but pretty cheap) because the markup here for NIOD is too high.

  8. Ooo I’m so excited. Can’t wait for April. My current HG niacinamide product (which also has 10% niacinamide) costs $24.95 for 30mL so it would be great if The Ordinary’s products work for me.

Btw have you heard of Aussie brand Propaira? I think you’d like their products. They’re really well formulated with an emphasis on scientifically proven ingredients. The HG niacinamide product I mentioned is by them and this is the ingredients list:

Aqua (Purified Water), Niacinamide, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl
Alcohol, Dimethicone, Ceteareth-20, Xanthan Gum, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed
Oil, Oligopeptide-34 , Copper Tripeptide-1, Glycerin, Disodium EDTA, Glycine Soja
(Soyabean) Oil, Sodium Oleate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl
    Alcohol.

Check them out. I think their products are right up your alley.
