If I had to say what makeup defined my summer, it'd have to be blue
eyeliner and coral lips. It's probably the 80s association, but I've been scared of blue and orange makeup for all of my teen-adult life (although I did rub blue Smarties on my eyelids as a kid. I was pretty into DIY all the way back then too!). I eased myself into blue and orange with some easy, quick products, and surprisingly, loved them.
Here's what I carried around in my bag 99% of the time since late last year:
Make Up Store Eye Pencil in Ice Blue (metallic)*
I was undecided about this frosty blue to begin with, but it works surprisingly on me. It's great as a subtle pop of colour and is easy to work with. I can imagine using this year-round.
Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in Turquoise*
This is a more high-voltage electric blue - I don't think it'll be taken out during daytime outside of summer!
I've used these both on the waterline and lining the upper lid - they work great on both. On my waterline everything tends to clump after a few hours, but the Rimmel pencil manages to last more than half a day without touchups.
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Stain in Rendezvous (Romantic also pictured)
I bought three of these, and they all turned out to suit me really well - lucky, as I have a history of choosing really terrible lip colours and having to franken them into other things. Romantic (warm red) is totally my kind of colour, but Rendezvous (coral-orange) is not, but I found out I had to get my hands on it thanks to Michaela. Unfortunately it hasn't been released in Australia, so I had to get someone to send it to me, but it was well worth the hassle. I'm a big fan of lip stains since I'm a nervous lip-chewer, and these start off as lipstick-like moisturising pigmented colour, but wear down to natural-ish stains. I'll swatch my meagre collection soon, but like Turquoise, I'm not sure Rendezvous will make the transition to autumn.
Gratuitous selfie time!
While I'm sad to see these leave my handbag, I'm looking forward to wearing some more sober shades!
