CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume Waterproof in Very Black has been my default mascara of choice for a while. No matter how many high end mascaras I try, I always end up reaching for this funky orange tube. I use Very Black, which is... very black.
Pros:
- Drugstore, so pretty cheap and widely available (RRP $17.95 in Australia grrr, but about half that in the US)
- Easy application - I was originally apprehensive about the scary-looking rubbery bristles on the wand, but they're great for separating lashes and ensuring it's clump-free in only a couple of strokes
- Very Black is definitely very black, and doesn't go ashy as it dries like some other mascaras.
- Makes lashes look plump and thick, without looking crunchy.
- Holds a curl very well - I've had a few mascaras destroy my carefully curled eyelashes before my eyes. This one doesn't, at all, and it doesn't even change the shape of the curl. Win!
- Long wear, doesn't crumble over the day. Also very waterproof - it doesn't budge!
Cons:
- Annoying to remove. Regular "gentle" makeup remover doesn't quite cut it, I've had most success with two-phase oil-on-water style removers (Garnier's one works well), or even extra virgin olive oil. It's best if you apply to a pad and hold it over your eye for 20 seconds to help it dissolve.
I've heard that the non-waterproof version is equally good, without the removal difficulty, but I'm wary of all non-waterproof mascaras due to my terrible allergies and tendency to cry over really lame things (never reading Jonathan Safran Foer on public transport ever again).

This is definitely my favourite mascara, although I use the one in the purple tube because I find it dries a bit faster. I have pretty watery eyes and I cry extremely easily, and I don't have much of a problem with it running. I usually remove it with olive oil which seems to work pretty well!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to give that a go after I finish this tube off, thanks! :)
DeleteThe non-waterproof version of this is what I've been wearing as HG for a little while now. It's absolutely awesome and comes off EASILY. Further, it's not oversensitive to wetness, as I've been eye-leaky from various things lately (nasty cold). After several hours of wear (like... 6-8) it starts to flake off but that's okay because who needs mascara on for that long?
ReplyDeleteI know cosmetics in Australia are criminally expensive but I think you'd like it for days when you have no interest in dealing with hell eye makeup removal.
Ooh, I will try to get my hands on that! Thanks for the rec :)
DeleteI love this mascara but I haven't had one in a few years! I will have to pick one up soon, you've reminded me how much I love it!
ReplyDeleteGlad I helped fuel your beauty habit! :P
Deleteneed before and after pics!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with Benefit - They're Real! Mascara! SOOO good! Will do a post on it soon :)
I should, but my eyelashes are really terrible right now (stress makes me pull them out) :(
