I've seen a lot of galaxy nails floating around, but never got around to
trying it. Lucky it came up for Artsy Wednesday, or I'd never have had
the strange god-like feeling of having galaxies at my fingertips!
I started with a base of Borghese Tempesta Black, a black with subtle silver shimmer. Then I randomly sponged on ulta3 Lily White, the most opaque white I own. I alternated between orange- and purple-toned galaxies for each nail.
For the orange toned galaxies, I sponged ulta3 Tropez (bronze shimmer) over the white, leaving some plain white in the middle. Then I sponged W7 Envy around the edges and shaped the galaxy with Tempesta Black, and added stars with some Winmax Long Type #27, an orange-toned iridescent glitter topcoat. I finished with Seche Vite.
For the purple toned nails, I substituted ulta3 Pearly Grape (fuschia shimmer) for Tropez.
My favourite nail:
This design looked very impressive for not very much effort - it took only 15 minutes to do one hand after the base dried. And it's pretty much foolproof since they're supposed to look irregular. I can see myself doing this in the future for any special occasion that's even remotely related to space!

Thanks Bec! You should do them, I love your manis!
DeleteImpressive. I hope you don't mind my asking, how did the other hand turn out?
ReplyDeleteI haven't actually tried it out as a full mani yet, but it was actually quite easy, I've tried much worse, time- and fiddly-wise *cough drag marble cough*
DeleteAnd it helps a lot that the nails aren't meant to look the same, and the design is very thin *cough stupid drag marble cough*
DeleteOh, I don't even want to try marbling. Any sort of marbling. But galaxy is on my to do list and I just love how yours turned out so I couldn't help but wonder how does one do it on non-dominant hand. I think I'll just go with one accent nail.
DeleteNah, I reckon it'll be hard to screw up since you're using a tiny sponge, not a brush or pin or anything like that. The sponge would be way easier to manipulate!
DeleteWhat's that Orly you're holding in the picture?
ReplyDeleteIt's actually W7 Envy :)
DeleteThese are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
