Essence Where Is the Party? is an amazing multichrome shimmer in the
bottle. I read on a few other blogs that they couldn't get the
multichrome to show on the nail so I didn't try it for ages, but I
plucked up the courage and it turned out to be JAWDROPPINGLY GORGEOUS.
This is 2 coats over black.
At different angles, it reflects different colours. In most lights it's green-purple:
Straight on, it's purple...
...which shifts to a brassy grey...
...which turns into green...
...then finally, a bold teal. It took me a few goes to work out how to capture the colours - the best conditions were in the bathroom under the heat light so, er, welcome to my bathroom!
In the bottle it goes a little further into royal blue in the right light, but that just didn't work for me on the nail.
I'm a massive sucker for duo/multichromes - I just stare at my nails slack-jawed when I'm wearing them (probably get a few weird looks)... Where Is the Party? has probably been the best bargain for me so far, at $2.55 a bottle, but I bought two backups, so a bit less of a bargain at $7.65. (Don't judge me.) So I guess my $4 bottle of the mythical discontinued Rimmel Zeitgeist stays my best value slathering-idiot polish!
What's your best value-for-money polish?

ooooh pretty=]
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say my best values are gonna be pure ice from wal mart. yeah i'm cheap. but they don't always have what i realllly want so my favorite drugstore would probably be revlon...but if i'm gonna buy revlon i might as well shell out the little extra it costs for china glaze..
Argh, over here Revlon is twice the price of China Glaze! But Revlon is also a lot easier to find.
DeleteSo that's the secret, wear is over black! Might have to try that next time I have a duo-chrome that doesn't want to play nice. :)
ReplyDeleteThis one would actually be ok without the black base I think, but I've gotten into the habit of using a black base after painting 5 coats of Space Cadet and still having VNL... black is very useful for those sorts of translucent glass-fleck-ish particles!
Deletewoah so pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! Massive polish crush <3
Deletethis is super gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIt is! Go out and get yourself a bottle! :) I feel like Essence should pay me for this endorsement...
DeleteThis is utterly beautiful! I love all the different colours it creates xxx
ReplyDeleteYes, multichromes are the best!!
DeleteI think it looks great on you, and the light in your bathroom is just perfect :D
ReplyDeleteI have it too, and had no problems with getting the multichrome to show either :)
Oh good, I've just seen so many reviews that were essentially "great in bottle, blah on nail"... I have no idea what's going wrong, maybe camera angle?
DeleteI totally saw this at Ulta and thought that looks just like Butter London's Knackered but without the holo glitter. Having Knackered and looking at these, I feel safe saying that it is an exact duochrome!
ReplyDeleteI found a comparison on another blog - they do look very similar! This is more opaque though.
DeleteThat looks SO FABULOUS over black! It's all awesomely dreamy shifting without being all up in your face about it. Love this look. :)
ReplyDeleteNice description! I think it might be even less bold without the black base, dreamier :)
DeleteUwah - I need that polish! Purples and greens are some of my favorite colors. I'm so into Essence right now too bad it's not really available in the US :(
ReplyDeleteReally? Boo! Set up a swap!
DeleteI have a bottle...new and un swatched...I was just about to give it away **snatches back** now I MUST use it! Thanks
ReplyDeleteI was going to give it away too, but it's ALL MINEEEEE.
DeleteOh this is so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous. I didn't know that it is a multichrome, I thought of it as a duochrome, and I already have a similar one (Deborah Carpe Diem). Now I know that this one is a must-have.
ReplyDeleteIf you can get your hands on some Flormar Supershine Miracle Colors, do so. They have amazing duo and multichromes and are of high quality. I don't know how much they could cost in Australia, but in Europe they are about 3€ and are worth every penny.
