NOTD: Duochrome yay! Color Club Alias

Duochrome time! This was part of my nail mail - Color Club Alias. It's a purple/green duochrome with big chunky foil-like particles in a really translucent base, so it needs underwear. I used Color Club Catwalk Queen, but any dark colour will probably do... (shut up Michelle, less talk more pics!)

Nom!

Pretty...

Pretty...

BAM! Duochrome flash right in your face!

The green flash really comes out best when backlit, but that's also when the camera's least cooperative.

I jazzed it up a bit with some gold stamping using ulta3 Gold Rush Fever (PRC):

Overall, it's very pretty and it combines two of my favourite colours, purple and green. But I can only wear foils in winter, in the sun I just find them too damn SHINY. It's nowhere near as crazy as the Orly Cosmic FX polishes though, which are amazing but just a bit too much sometimes. I think I'm more of a shimmer-duochrome girl, but Alias is definitely a keeper!

    1. It's pretty awesome! Most of my duo/multichromes are purple I think, it seems to be a popular colour!

  3. I saw the chevrons and I thought you were a painting wizard, hehe. Then I saw that you said stamping (not sure what that means). I am a dope with nails I guess, lol. I like this look.

    1. Stamping usually means something like a Konad system - you put polish onto a special engraved plate, scrape the top flat (so polish is only in the dented bit), then roll a rubber stamp to pick up the design. Then you quickly roll it over your nails, and the polish design transfers. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it (but that takes a while, and it's a painful process, at least for me).

  6. I've got Alias, but no matter how much I twisted and turned my fingers, I couldn't see the duochrome effect, it was very disappointing.
But I think I'll try one more time, this time with an appropriate colour underwear for it. If it works for you, it's gotta work for me too! :)

    1. Good luck! :) Try shining a light behind it and tilting, that seemed to work best for me. That's how I took the 4th pic.

  7. Ah! It really does look like the Cosmic FX from Orly when you layer it like that. I didn't end up buying any from this collection after seeing all the reviews complaining about the sheerness/lack of duochrome on the nail. A shame because they all looked soooo awesome in bottle in the promo pics!

    1. It's a little bit less sparkly than Space Cadet, but the effect is quite similar. Often with duo/multichromes it's all about angle, backlighting usually works, or having your nails horizontal then lifting them vertically towards the light (nail elevator whee!). You look like a bit of an idiot doing it though, all cross-eyed! I've been quite lucky with duo/multichromes I think, the only one that I'm a bit too scared to try is Essence Where's the Party, I really hope I find a good layering combo for it...

    1. I prefer it alone as well, I was puzzling over what to do with it but I think I should've gone with flakies...

  9. Instant want! It's like Mardi Gras on your nails, especially with the gold. :)
