BYS eyeshadow palettes: Drop in the Ocean, Smoke & Mirrors

BYS is a budget Australian cosmetic brand sold in supermarkets and variety stores across the country. I recently came across these eyeshadow palettes when browsing in Gloss while waiting for my train to come. $4.95 each - bargain!

Drop in the Ocean:

Aren't they darling? Look at the embossing!

First off, unlike a lot of other cheap eyeshadows (including a lot of other BYS palettes), the main ingredient isn't talc. There's heaps of mica, so it's super shiny, and not powdery. However, it's a tad greasy - I'm an eyeshadow novice, but I guess that could affect staying power.

Any suggestions for what I can try with my palettes? Or recommendations for resources that teach you how to apply eyeshadow... I'd really appreciate some! :)

  1. Using a wet eye shadow brush will give you a really pigmented colour if you want a nice pop! I always use a primer on my eyelids before applying eyeshadow as it really helps to keep it in place! :) Using the white colour directly underneath the brow will give you a really good definition and highlights your brow bone which gives it a beautiful feminine look! Hope this helps!

  2. Primer is a must!! I use Urban Decay Primer Potion but there are many good ones out there. As for technique, I would look at some Youtube videos... my favorites are from Temptalia, Pixi2woo, MakeupgeekTV, vintageortacky, and Xsparkage. Hope this helps some.

  3. I love BYS! They're so cheap, and fairly good quality for the price. I buy them all the time when I want a certain colour/item for a once-off.

  4. I'm such a makeup novice too. The last eye shadows I bought were a pallet of four different colours. On the back of the pallet they had a colour by numbers picture of an eye so I know where to put them. :D
